About Chaïa

Chaïa was born from a dream that began long before it had a name. Founded in Los Angeles by Chaya Mobasser—a 16-year-old designer with an extraordinary eye for beauty and a deep reverence for world cultures—Chaïa is where fashion becomes a bridge between continents.

From a young age, Chaya was captivated by the way people around the world express identity through what they wear. She studied the intricate beadwork of Indian artisans, the sun-drenched crochet traditions of Brazilian coastal villages, and the timeless elegance woven into fabrics across cultures. What started as sketches in a notebook became something far greater: a brand built on the belief that clothing can carry the soul of a place.

Every Chaïa collection is inspired by a different corner of the world. The textures, colors, and spirit of each destination are translated into modern, wearable pieces that feel as alive as the cultures they celebrate. And the name itself tells this story—the two dots above the “ï” represent connection. One dot is the country. The other is you. Chaïa brings those two points together, making every piece a bridge between cultures.

Our Impact

Chaïa is more than a fashion label—it is a movement rooted in giving back. Every collection directly supports a nonprofit organization working in the country that inspired the designs. When you wear Chaïa, you are not just choosing handmade luxury—you are funding real change in the communities where these extraordinary crafts originate.

This is fashion with a conscience. The connection between the artisan’s hands and your wardrobe is real, traceable, and deeply personal. We believe that beauty should leave the world better than it found it.

A Note from Chaya

I started Chaïa because I believe fashion has the power to do more than make you look good—it can make the world feel closer. Every piece you wear carries the story of an artisan, a tradition, and a community. I’m so grateful you’re part of this journey with me. Together, we’re proving that style and substance can live in the same stitch.

With love, Chaya

The Chaïa Philosophy: Fashion as Cultural Bridge

At Chaïa, we believe clothing is one of the most powerful languages humans have ever created. Long before written words crossed oceans, textiles did. A weave from one village told the story of its rivers; a beadwork pattern from another carried the memory of its festivals. When you wear something handmade, you are wearing centuries of accumulated knowledge — the precise tension of a stitch, the exact rhythm of a hook, the deliberate choice of a color that has meant something to a community for generations. Mass production cannot replicate this. Algorithms cannot dream it up. It exists only because real people, in real places, kept their craft alive.

Our role is to honor that lineage and translate it into pieces that fit modern lives — clothing you can wear to a beach in Tulum, a wedding in Lisbon, a rooftop dinner in New York, or a Sunday brunch in Los Angeles. The destination changes; the soul of the piece does not.

Where Our Collections Come From

Brazil — Hand-Crocheted Resort Wear. Our crochet collection is hand-hooked in coastal Brazil, where generations of women have refined the craft of one-stitch-at-a-time garment making. Each top, dress, and short takes between 12 and 40 hours to complete. The metallic threads we use are sourced regionally and chosen for how they catch sunlight on the water — a tradition rooted in beach towns where women have been crocheting for the sea long before resort wear was a category.

India — Hand-Beaded Evening Bags. Our bag collection is hand-beaded in workshops across India, where artisans practice Adda embroidery — a centuries-old technique using a wooden frame and a hooked needle to apply each bead one at a time. A single Chaïa clutch can contain 40,000 to 100,000 beads. The patterns we develop blend traditional motifs with contemporary silhouettes, so the heritage remains visible while the bag belongs in 2026.

Our Impact, in Detail

Every Chaïa collection is paired with a nonprofit working in the country that inspired it. We believe transparency is the only honest version of "giving back," so we publish the partnerships and the percentages. For our Brazil collection, contributions support women-led artisan cooperatives that provide fair wages, healthcare access, and childcare so makers can work without choosing between income and family. For our India collection, contributions support craft preservation programs that train new generations in Adda embroidery and beadwork — keeping the technique alive at a moment when industrial alternatives threaten to replace it.

Slow fashion is not a marketing phrase for us. It is the only model that allows artisans to be paid fairly, materials to be chosen carefully, and pieces to be made to last. A Chaïa garment is meant to outlive trends.

Sustainability and Materials

We work in small batches. Nothing is mass-produced. We do not run flash sales because we do not over-produce inventory. The fibers we choose — cotton, viscose blends, metallic threads — are selected for durability and wearability, not disposability. Our packaging uses recyclable materials, and our dust bags are made from reclaimed cotton offcuts so that even our shipping leaves the smallest possible footprint.

Founder's Note: Chaya Mobasser

I started Chaïa at 16 because I could not stop noticing how much beauty existed in the world that the fashion industry was ignoring. I wanted to build something that did the opposite — that put artisan hands at the center, that made cultural exchange feel respectful instead of extractive, and that proved a young brand could ship globally while keeping the stitch local. Every order you place is a vote for that vision. Thank you for wearing it with me.
